Crown Him with Many Crowns
Dating from the 18th century, this majestic hymn is appropriate for many occasions, most especially Easter. The tenors and basses share a rousing passage in robust 4-part harmony as they exclaim, "Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee, and hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity!" The sopranos and altos follow with a lyrical passage in 3-part harmony, singing tenderly of the wounds in the Lord's hands and side. The chorus concludes with a declaration of Christ "who rose victorious" and "triumphed o'er the grave."
